What is DVD & Blue Ray Authoring?

I have heard about this term quite a few times, but could never understand as to what it exactly meant. So, this time when I heard about this term, decided to check as to what it exactly meant.

In 1997 digital video & audio technology arrived in people's homes across the world, in the usage of DVD, (Digital Versatile Discs). It changed the home entertainment business forever.

A decade later, a new uprising is under way with the introduction and ever-increasing interest of High Definition video & high-resolution audio playback in the type of Blu-ray discs. Apart from the much enhanced visual and audio skill, Blu-ray authoring technology is speedily emerging in status as it also provides improved interactivity with the Internet. The live Internet link permits Blu-ray to provide a range of extra features likened to DVDs.

DVD and Blu-ray authoring is the language used to define the formation of DVDs & Blu-ray discs for the usage in DVD & Blu-ray players. The name "Blu-ray" has originated from the point that a blue laser (not red) reads the discs.

Before, the real authoring procedure takes place the video & audio is prearranged and flattened, so that the pictures and all other material planned for the disc can be appropriate onto a DVD or Blu-ray, and then be relished as a movie. Though a double layer DVD provides 8.5 GB of volume, without the video documents being "flattened" a normal movie would never be suitable for a disc. For DVDs the package is prearranged in an MPEG-2 setup, while for Blue-rays, MPEG-4 is the most widely used video compression code.
